Release: Pennington County Plowing Operations Update

Pennington County Highway is working hard continuing to clear roads when visibility allows. Wall and New Underwood areas are the most difficult to clear at this time. They continue to make progress in rest of the county, including Rapid Valley. By the end of the day Thursday, they expect to punch through all asphalt roads in the county, including the Wall asphalt roads. They don't expect them all to remain passable unless the wind subsides. Gravel roads will remain impassable with drifting snow through tonight.

Please remain patient and thank you for taking preparedness steps and stocking up your supplies before the storm.

Release: County Plows Suspend Operations
Due to low visibility and high winds causing drifting snow, Pennington County snow plowing operations will be suspended until further notice. The Plow operators are unable to see in the areas that need to be worked, and many locations that they open up are drifting shut again very quickly.
Please be advised that many roads in Pennington County remain impassible.
Release: Travel Impacts

Travel remains significantly impacted in much of Pennington County. County Snow Plows are working hard to open roads, however high winds causing drifting snow continue to pose travel hazards. Many roads east of Rapid City remain impassible.
The traveling public is cautioned that road and driving condition within Rapid City can be significantly different than the conditions in the Central Black Hills or Eastern Pennington County and are advised to use caution and good judgment when deciding whether or not to take to the streets.
